Day 1 – Who are you?

1 Thessalonians 5:23 (AMPC) “And may the God of peace Himself sanctify you through and through [separate you from profane things, make you pure and wholly consecrated to God]; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved sound and complete [and found] blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah).”
Who are you really? God created you as a three-part man—as a spirit with a soul in a physical body.
In 1 Thessalonians 5:23, God requires us to be blameless. It’s important for us to notice the reference to the three-part man in totality. I’m sure most of us desire to have a life set apart for God, but often feel that it’s an unreachable request since we have a sinful nature. Today’s verse assures us that our sanctification is through:
- The God of peace Himself (through His Spirit)
- Separation of profane things as we are made pure and blameless
- God can only sanctify us through His Spirit, and therefore our communication with God will always be through the Spirit.
Our sinful nature will influence our bodies and souls; since these are the vulnerable areas we control, the Word of God is the only way to separate the truth and lie: good and evil, holy and contaminated. Hebrews 4:12 (NKJ) “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
Our souls and bodies need to yield to the Spirit of God as we surrender our fleshly desires and will to that of God.
Take some time today and thank God for creating you as a three-part man and trust Him for a fresh and new revelation regarding your body, soul, and spirit and how He wants to preserve each part for the Glory of His Kingdom.
Prayer: Father God, thank you for creating us as a three-part man, with each part playing an important role in becoming what you’ve created us for. Through Your Spirit, guide us in understanding who we really are in You. Amen.
