Dancing to the right music – Day 3

Web of fear

Ephesians 5:21(KJV) “Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.”

Fear is not the danger – what we fear is.  God is clear on where He expects our fear to be directed too. The fear of God has one face only – Jesus Christ and we need to follow His example. Fear of man has many faces and manifests in various ways – being a people pleaser is one of them.

“The remarkable thing about God is that when you fear God, you fear nothing else, whereas if you do not fear God, you fear everything else.” – Oswald Chambers

The easiest way I could understand fear was by comparing it to a spider and a web. One spider; one spiderweb many meals. One situation, one person with many fears, many faces, and disaster.

Fear is a web of our past experiences, situations, encounters, relationships, and words spoken over us. If we do not manage to deal and heal, we will remain trapped. Waiting for the spider forever. It will become the only sound we hear and react to. The sound of fear.

Galatians 1:10 “Am I saying this now to win the approval of people or God? Am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be Christ’s servant.”

The web of fear causes us to react in certain ways. A desperate struggle to loosen ourselves from its hold.  Rejection, unworthiness, mistrust, fear of conflict, and the words of the liar are the faces of fear that lead us to pleasing people.

For the next few days, we will be looking at these five faces and allow God to reveal His truth to us as we face them head-on.

Prayer: Father God, as we come before you today, I thank you for revealing the faces of fear in our lives. Please help us to face and deal with these giants for us to be set free and live a life of fearing You and Your greatness, instead of fearing man. Amen
