Dancing to the right music – Day 6
Mistrust
Proverbs 3:5 (ESV) “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.”
Once bitten, twice shy. Rejection and unworthiness lead us to the next face of fear – mistrust. If we have been rejected and experienced feelings of unworthiness, we are most likely to mistrust.
How do we manage to trust other people with our “everything” hoping it would be good enough if we have been hurt by them and been betrayed? Another question the Holy Spirit asked while facing my fear of mistrust. Mistrust is in fact trust – but a false controlling one. If we can please people and make them happy, we control the reaction, outcome, and value of our sacrifice. Mistrust is also the fear of losing control, so even though we do not have any confidence in this person, we are still willingly placing all our confidence in their reaction and response.
1 Thessalonians 2:4 ESV “But just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not to please man, but to please God who tests our hearts.”
It’s time to find the mistrust in your life and deal with it. If we want to get free from the web of fear, we need to place our trust in God only and make sure when He searches our hearts, He will only find desires of pleasing Him there! We need to ask ourselves if we have even lost our trust in God because everyone else has failed us?
The only way to face this giant is to lean on God and not yourself. People are never to be trusted in the first place, only God. In your quiet time today, ask Holy Spirit to help you search your heart about trust. Where has your trust been broken and what caused this drive to please people even though you do not trust them. Re-establish your trust in God and lean on His understanding, not your own anymore.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, the last few days have been hard. It’s not easy facing our giants and admitting where we have allowed the lies of the enemy to consume us. Be with everyone today as they deal with mistrust issues and reveal Your truth to them. Amen
