DAY 10 – PEACEMAKER

“How joyful you are when you make peace! For then you will be recognized as a true child of God.” Matthew 5:9

Peace is something almost all of us long for and we have all heard the comment: “Why can’t we all just get along?” – yet, how many people actually work toward that end personally?

The fact is that peace does not just happen. It takes hard work that can only come from the Lord. The Beatitudes give us the attitudes to embrace in order to live our lives for God and promise the blessing of God for working at these attitudes.

The NLT says: “God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God.”

The NIV says: “Blessed are the peacemakers.”

“Those work for peace” and “peacemakers” – it is clear that peace does not come naturally and takes work. It is an action, a task, and a decisive effort from us as children of God to make and pursue peace.

“Work at living at peace with everyone, and work at living a holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord.” Hebrews 12:14

“Do all you can to live in peace with everyone.” Romans 12:18

Being a peacemaker is walking in the footsteps of God and following His example. He brought peace to us through the cross of Jesus so we could enter a peaceful relationship in right standing with Him.

Peace is our umpire, and it is one of the most wonderful gifts we have received as God’s children. Jesus said: “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

Prayer: Pappa God, thank You with all my heart for making peace through the cross of Jesus! Help me to actively pursue peace with all people and to work at making peace as you desire. Show me Holy Spirit where I can bring Your peace to people and situations. May Your Name be glorified. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
