Day 10 – Your presence illuminates midnight
Acts 16:25 “About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing songs to God. The other prisoners were listening to them.”
Do you believe that amidst storms and onslaughts, God has a plan? His plan involves saving souls more than it does our comfort. So what happened to Paul and Silas after they were beaten and imprisoned?
The Bible says it so beautifully: “And at midnight, Paul and Silas prayed …” And then they started singing praises unto God. And the other prisoners heard them. What a testimony! What an encouragement to hear songs about God’s goodness; about how He opened the Red Sea to save His people. Songs declaring the faithfulness of God, how He is able to do exceedingly, abundantly above all that we could hope or dream; songs speaking words of life, words about the Keeper of His promises.
As they praised the Name that is above every name, something in their hearts changed. They began to see something other than their impossible surroundings. The atmosphere became charged with the Presence of the One who created the heavens and earth.
And then, an earthquake! The prison doors opened, Paul and Silas started preaching the resurrected Christ to the prison guards and the other prisoners. And many were saved that day. Are you willing to praise God in your midnight?
Prayer: God, You are so good! Even in my darkest hour, You are good. And Your presence sustains me. Thank you for this incredible example and testimony of Paul and Silas. Help me to see You when I am treated unfairly, so that my life may be a testimony to the lost people around me – that they may come to know You, too. Amen.
