Day 12 – Your presence in the storm

Mark 4:37 “And there arose a fierce gale of wind, and the waves were breaking over the boat so much that the boat was already filling up … Jesus Himself was in the stern, asleep on the cushion.”
Scary! Another translation describes the wind as being “of hurricane proportions”. And Jesus was fast asleep! The disciples reacted like most of us would – terrified and accusing Jesus of leaving them to fend for themselves. We have discussed what the power of praise can accomplish. God wants us to praise Him in the storm!
But what if the storm doesn’t immediately subside when I praise God? Beloved, take courage. Your heart is changing. God is still on the throne. We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God—those whom He has called according to His plan (Romans 8:28). God’s plan is to constantly change us into the image of His Son. Change means growth, and growth involves pain and discomfort. Still, in this, God is with you! You have nothing to fear because nothing can separate you from the love of God. No storm will last forever. If you are in the middle of something now, please be encouraged. God is with You, and if He isn’t worried about the intensity of the storm, neither should we be.
Who then is this, that even wind and sea obey Him?
Prayer: Creator, Faithful One, thank you for being a constant presence in my life. Although I am not always aware of You, I know You are here, because You promised that You’d never leave me on my own. Help me to see You during this storm, Lord. Help me to trust that, at the right moment, You will speak, and the storm will obey – and in the meantime, I will be safe. Amen.
