Day 14 – Prayers for family relationships

“Children, obey your parents because you belong to the Lord, for this is the right thing to do. “Honor your father and mother.” This is the first commandment with a promise: If you honor your father and mother, “things will go well for you, and you will have a long life on the earth.” Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them. Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord.” Ephesians 6:1-4 NLT

As much as each mother would like their home to be a peaceful, safe place where everyone gets along, we know it is a far cry from reality. Attitudes are sometimes bigger than the laundry pile, fighting seems like the only form of communication and when you get into bed (exhausted from just trying to navigate family life) you lie awake and ponder the relationship puzzles in your home. But God doesn’t make mistakes and wove your family together for His purpose. Within the boundaries of our homes, we teach our children while we learn from them.

Praying for family relations

Father, I pray that you give me the wisdom to teach my children about obedience – not just towards the parents, but to You. May we be parents worthy of honor and that they know the importance of this commandment. May we not provoke our children to anger and treat them with Your love, patience, and grace. Show us how to implement discipline according to Your Word and to follow the instructions that comes from You. Amen.
