DAY 2  – BLESSED ARE THEY…

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 5:3-10

Do these qualities mark your life? Jesus wants us to live like this.

Our English word “blessed” fits into the definition of the Aramaic word “toowayhon” which means “enriched, happy, fortunate, delighted, blissful and content”. “Toowayhon” however also implies great happiness, prosperity, abundant goodness, and delight! In effect, the word “bliss” captures its full meaning. “Toowayhon” also means to have the capacity to enjoy union and communion with God.

The power of the words Jesus speaks in this sermon expresses the very truth of His purpose! “The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom to the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor…” Isaiah 61:1-2

Prayer: Majesty, how blessed, fortunate, and enriched we are to settle Your words in our hearts. Thank You precious life-giver for Your truth that sets us free, Your power that binds us up and heals us; and Your light that has brought us out of the prison of darkness. What delightful bliss we can experience at Your right hand. What an absolute blessing it is that you have given us the capacity to enjoy union and communion with You Father! Thank You, Lord. Amen.
