DAY 3 – Reputation doesn’t count

Ruth 4:16-17 “Then Naomi took the child to her and cared for him. The women living there said “Naomi has a son and they named him Obed. He was the father of Jesse, the Father of David.”

Ruth and Orpah, two women of Moab had married two sons of Elimelech and Naomi, Judeans who had settled in Moab to escape a famine in Judah. Looking at the story, these two women were loyal to each other irrespective of their life difficulties. They went through poverty, loneliness, and being widowed.

Ruth, a foreigner (Moabite) by birth, showed how God works in the day-to-day life of an average person. The story shows God’s amazing act of redemption. Ruth’s story is one of integrity, righteousness, and faithfulness that leads to greater blessings, to both Ruth and Naomi, even Boaz. (Matthew 1:1-5). The message of the book of Ruth reveals how the Lord intervened to protect Naomi’s family line through Boaz and led to her great-great-grandson David, the future, divinely chosen King of Israel, and lineage to the birth of the Messiah.

Our King and Lord Jesus Christ were born from the lineage of a pagan woman (Moabite), who gave her life to trust the God of Israel. Indeed this story is a true example of the true grace of God, using anyone irrespective of where or how you were born (status). The Lord made good his promise by restoring Israel’s agricultural productivity (Ruth 1:6). Ruth believed God would provide and that is faith, God did a miracle in redeeming Ruth. He took a poor and hurting outcast, healed her, provided for her, and brought her great love with Boaz.

Prayer: The book is a beautiful example of how God can take a hopeless situation and turn it into something glorious. Oh, help us mighty God to be faithful to you at all times, even when the situations are tough we need to be loyal to you and trust, for you are indeed a faithful God. Amen.
