DAY 6 – MEEKNESS
“Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.” Matthew 5:5
Another translation says “what blessing comes to you when gentleness lives in you…”
“But the humble of heart will inherit every promise and enjoy abundant peace.” Psalm 37:11
Meekness is essentially an attitude or quality of the heart whereby we are willing to submit without resistance to the will and desire of our God.
Meekness is the way Jesus wants us to approach the world. Meekness is not weakness, quite the contrary, it is strength under control.
Think about a dad play-wrestling with his son. Obviously, the dad is much stronger, bigger, and more powerful and thus the father restrains his power for the benefit of the son.
So is the same with meekness. We do not need to throw our weight around, but instead, leverage our power for the benefit of those around us.
Meekness is best described as strong, not weak; active, not passive; courageous, not timid; restrained, not excessive; modest, not self-aggrandizing; and gracious, not brash.
Jesus is the most perfect and beautiful example of meekness and a visible image of this is described in John 13 where God Himself, the Creator of all, washes the feet of the ones He created. What an incredible Savior we serve!
Prayer: Dear Father, oh, that I may be like Jesus! Only with Your help Holy Spirit will gentleness live within me. I ask today that meekness awakens in me more and more as You teach me how to leverage Your power within me to the benefit of others. Bless me with opportunities to follow in the footsteps of my Savior by loving and serving others. Most importantly dear Lord, teach me to submit to You without any resistance. Amen.
