DAY 7 – Let God be the Ruler

Esther 2:17 “King was attracted to Esther more than to any of the other women, she won approval more than to any of the other virgin and she was made queen.”

The name of God is not mentioned in this book but His sovereignty and purposed plan for His people is evident. He is all-wise and all-knowing. One example is how she qualified for the beauty pageant through her good upbringing credited to Mordecai (uncle).

As in 2 Kings 5:2, where a slave girl in another country knew that the God of Israel is the only God that can heal and save her master Nahman. The two stories encourage Christian women to be responsible in teaching children the Word of God, (Proverbs 22:6). Another important virtue is Esther living in exile without giving up her identity, as young as she was. We Christian women must not compromise the gospel for prejudice, we must have courage, and act with wisdom and integrity to live the true gospel for the one who called and saved us, Jesus Christ. John 17:15 Jesus says “My prayer is not that you take them out of the world, but that you may protect them from the evil one.” & verse 17 “Sanctify them by the truth, your Word is the truth.”

God’s protection and providence are shown in how He takes care of His people in all situations. The Jews were saved in this story through a young girl called Esther. We are also saved by God’s grace through Jesus Christ for it is by grace that we are saved (Ephesians 2:8).

Prayer: Father in the name of Jesus we come to you to humble ourselves and ask you to forgive us our sins, not trusting you at times, doubting you when under prejudice. Help us oh dear Lord to learn from the story of Esther that you alone are a sovereign God, all-knowing and all-wise God. The beginning of Psalm 139 shows us that God’s knowledge of all things does not limit his intimate knowledge of us, in Jesus’s name, Amen!
