DAY 7 – RIGHTEOUSNESS

“How enriched you are when you crave righteousness, for you will be satisfied.” Matthew 5:6

As followers of Jesus, we should be hungry and thirsty for righteousness. Righteousness is right standing with God, and it comes only through Jesus who is our righteousness. Craving righteousness is craving Jesus… thirsting to drink from the fountain of life. We have no righteousness other than Jesus our precious Savior and He bids us “come to me” to enjoy His life-giving presence.

We learned that mourning is also waiting for God, and this is how we should wait… hungry and thirsty. “Swing wide, you gates of righteousness, and let me pass through, and I will enter into God’s presence to worship only Him.” Psalm 118:19

Righteousness living is walking in the victory that Jesus has secured for us on the cross, thus choosing to walk in a way worthy of our proclamation of faith and focused on pleasing God.

Craving righteousness is the desire to overcome the world, the flesh, the mind, and fear by consistent surrender to the sanctification and guidance of the Holy Spirit; and using our spiritual weapons to defeat the enemy. “They overcame him by the blood of the lamb and the word of their testimony”.

Craving righteousness is the craving for more of the infilling of God’s Spirit for no righteousness is reality without the Holy Spirit. “Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit says the Lord.”

One of the most precious ways for God to ascribe righteousness to us is to trust Him. Simply having faith is righteousness to God and what greater gift than to be able to trust the one who cannot fail? (See Hebrews 11)

Prayer: Abba, Your love and mercy given in Your Son Jesus is truly the greatest gift of all! I crave, I hunger, I thirst for this righteousness precious Father – the righteousness that only comes by receiving Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross, your gift of grace by faith daily; the righteousness that comes by beholding and gazing at Jesus in adoration as He imparts His nature into me; and the righteousness that comes through the sanctification of the indwelling Holy Spirit so that my life may honor you! Thank you for Your righteousness. Amen.
