Day 9 – Your presence in my midnight

Acts 16:25 “But about midnight when Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns of praise to God …”

Have you ever felt cheated, betrayed? Let’s see how Pauls and Silas handled very unfair treatment. Paul was told in a vision to go and preach the gospel in Macedonia. He and Silas obeyed, and God did powerful miracles through them. Next thing they were arrested and beaten mercilessly and thrown into the “inner prison”, their feet bound in stocks. So unfair. They didn’t deserve it.

So did God abandon them after sending them to preach His Word? Did God forget about them? Was He angry about something they did or failed to do? Were they perhaps not good enough anymore or was God punishing them? Dear friend, you may be asking the same questions. Why is my life so unfair? Where is God?

Where was God when Paul and Silas sat in the dark, cold and damp dungeons, their backs raw and bleeding, their morale low? God’s presence was right there! God allowed this horrible thing to happen to them because lost souls would be saved later that night, and He would be glorified. He had a plan!

Let’s choose, despite the dark hour, to trust God’s plan and rest in His presence.

Prayer:  Oh God, how awesome You are! When I face difficulties, You are still there – because You promised never to abandon me. Thank you that because of this truth, I can be at peace, even though this midnight hour seems to be going on forever. Amen.
