Holy Spirit – Day 10 – Spirit of Adoption

Spirit of Adoption

Romans 8:15 “For the Spirit which you have now received is not a spirit of slavery to put you once more in bondage to fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption [the Spirit producing sonship] in [the bliss of] which we cry, Abba Father! Father!”

Jesus promised in John 14 that He would not leave us as orphans (comfortless, desolate, bereaved, forlorn, helpless), but that He would come back to us – and He did, through His Spirit.

When we become born again, the Spirit is the One who brings our spirit to life. And He is the One who pours out God’s love in our hearts (Romans 5:5); the effect is that our reborn spirit is drawn to God, causing us to cry out, Abba! Father! We can then boldly call ourselves sons and daughters of God.

Verse 16 says that the Holy Spirit testifies with our own spirit, assuring us that we are children of God. And the result of being children of God is that we are heirs of God; fellow heirs of Christ, sharing in His suffering that we may also share in His glory. The Holy Spirit is the connector between us and the Father and Jesus – through Him, we receive new life, the love of the Father and we become children of God.

Prayer: Precious Holy Spirit, thank You for Your regenerating work in my life! Thank You for empowering me to call out to my Heavenly Father as His child and a fellow heir with Jesus Christ. Amen
