Holy Spirit – Day 14 – Whose fruit is it?
Whose fruit is it?
John 15:8 “When you bear (produce) much fruit, My Father is honoured and glorified and you show and prove yourselves to be true followers of Mine.”
When we are born again, we find ourselves in Christ; grafted into the Vine. Jesus invites us to remain in Him, the Vine, in order to bear fruit. And the Holy Spirit dwells within us. He is the source of life that feeds the fruit. It is His power that surges through us, that empowers us to produce fruit. What do these fruits look like? How will I know that I am producing the fruit of the Spirit?
Galatians 5:22-23 mention the different fruit that is evidence of the Spirit’s presence in our lives. They are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. These are the traits that should ooze out of the believer when faced with difficult situations. It is only possible to bear this kind of beautiful fruit through the Holy Spirit. On the other hand, it is possible to bear bad, rotten fruit; the fruit of selfishness. The good news is that the fruit of the Spirit is not our own fruit accomplished by our own effort. After all, it is the fruit of the Spirit. The Father is glorified by the fruit that we bear in Christ.
Prayer: Holy Spirit, I acknowledge that without You I can do nothing. My own efforts are futile. I turn to You now and ask that You would bring forth your fruit in my life so that I would be a sweet fragrance wherever I go and thus glorify my Heavenly Father. Amen
