Holy Spirit – Day 2 – First the seed must die

First the seed must die

John 12:24           “Unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains [just one grain: it never becomes more, but lives] by itself alone. But if it dies, it produces many others and yields a rich harvest.”

Yesterday we saw that Jesus had to leave this world in order for the Holy Spirit to come. In today’s Scripture, some Greeks had requested to see Jesus, and this is His response: Jesus describes the purpose of His death and resurrection and the coming of the Holy Spirit. In the flesh, Jesus could not be present for all people of all nations throughout the ages who desired to be with Him. As the Seed (Genesis 3:15), He had to die so that we could be become children of God.

Jesus is referred to as the Firstborn among the brethren – God’s only begotten Son. The death of the Seed enabled the birth of many more sons and daughters of God – the Church of the Firstborn (Hebrews 12:23). This was only possible through the coming of the Holy Spirit. He resides in us as the Spirit of Jesus. Jesus is eternally present through His Spirit.

Prayer: Loving Father, You are perfect in all of Your ways. Thank You for sowing Your only begotten Son so that through the Holy Spirit, I may have life! Thank You, Jesus, for being the Firstborn among the brethren so that I may also be called a child of God. Amen
