Words – Day 3 by Iriza

Words Attack – Gossip

“Rumors are dainty morsels that sink deep into one’s heart.” Proverbs 18:8

Gossip, to me, is a form of judgement over a person when they are not even aware of being discussed or accused. Because words are spirit, it sinks and attaches to one’s heart.

None of us like gossip (or so we say), but when the opportunity arises, the tongues go wagging. I think it’s safer to say that ’None of us likes gossip – when it’s about us’. I’ve often heard people justifying themselves when saying “It’s not gossip, I will say it to the person’s face too”. 99.95% of the time this never happens, but the words that were spoken remain.

When you find out that you were the topic of gossip, it hurts. Doesn’t matter if what was said is true or not – it hurts your heart. Proverbs describe rumours, talebearing, gossip as dainty morsels – decadent titbits like chocolate truffles in which we indulge. This indulgence cause damage to the heart and the guilty tongue belongs to the person who spoke the words.

Gossip is the biggest kindle to start a fire of quarrels. It hurts, ruins relationships and breaks trust. But the Word promises that when gossip stops, quarrels will disappear. Proverbs 26:20 “Fire goes out with wood, and quarrels disappear when gossip stops.”

Prayer: Father, I understand what the words of gossip can do. I ask that you please forgive me for the times I have gossiped about another person. I ask that the power of those words be broken in the Name of Jesus. Please heal the hurt in my heart caused by dainty morsels of gossip and I pray that the power of those words over me also be broken in the Name of Jesus. Amen.
