Day 116 – Mercy over Judgment

Study Luke 9:54-56

“And when His disciples James and John saw this, they said, ‘Lord, do you want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, just as Elijah did?’” Luke 9:54

Outraged by the rejection of the Samaritans, James and John reacted with fiery indignation, asking if they should call down lightning to consume the village. They wanted swift retribution for the disrespect shown to their Master. But Jesus sternly rebuked them, declaring that the Son of Man did not come to destroy lives, but to save them.

True kingdom greatness is never marked by a harsh, vengeful spirit that thirsts for payback, but by the patient, relentless mercy and grace of our Savior.

Pray with me: Lord Jesus, cleanse my heart from anger and a quick desire to retaliate when I face rejection. Fill me with Your patient mercy and grace today. Amen. ©
