Day 250 – John: Message and ministry of Jesus, the Son of God

“They replied, “We want to perform God’s works, too. What should we do?” Jesus told them, “This is the only work God wants from you: Believe in the one he has sent.” John 6:28-29 NLT
Read John 2:13 to John 12:50
Before the world began, Jesus lived with God, and He will reign forever with Him. In John, we see Jesus revealed in power and magnificence even before his resurrection. Jesus met with individuals, preached to great crowds, trained His disciples, and debated with the religious leaders. The message that He is the Son of God, the long-awaited Messiah, received mixed reactions from God’s chosen nation. Some worshipped Him, some were puzzled, some shrank back, and some were determined to silence Him. Isn’t this the same reaction we see today, too?
John records eight specific signs (or miracles) that show the nature of Jesus’ power and love. We see His power over everything created, and we see His love for all people. These signs encourage us to believe in Him. Believing in Him means having active, living, and continuous trust in Jesus as God. When we believe in His life, words, death, and resurrection, we are cleansed from sin and receive power to follow Him. We truly become disciples of Jesus Christ.
Prayer: Father, thank You for this Gospel teaching us the importance of believing who Jesus was, is, and forever will be. Through the choice of love, He became our salvation. Please use this Gospel to strengthen our faith and relationship with Jesus. Amen.
