Day 33 – Temptations
“being tempted for forty days by the devil. And in those days He ate nothing, and afterward, when they had ended, He was hungry.” Luke 4:2
The Greek word 𝘱𝘦𝘪𝘳𝘢𝘻𝘰̄ means to test, endeavour, scrutinize, discipline, or entice. The temptations Jesus faced were about far more than simply proving He could overcome them. They proved that Satan is already defeated. In Luke’s Gospel, the titles 𝘈𝘤𝘤𝘶𝘴𝘦𝘳 and 𝘋𝘦𝘷𝘪𝘭 are used interchangeably to describe the enemy.
Temptation lures us by replacing truth with lies, authenticity with empty appearances, and love for God with the love of self. Because temptation targets the deepest issues of the human heart, having a few good principles in place is never enough. We cannot rely on rule-keeping or image-management to bring about genuine, inside-out transformation.
Temptation is a battle we all face, but it is not merely about winning or losing. It is about discovering who you truly are in God and anchoring your strength in Him. God’s Word reshapes us so that even moments of temptation become a training ground for a life of abundance. Ultimately, the key to facing temptation is not a set of rules or a principle. It is a Person – Jesus.
Pray with me: Lord, through Your example, Jesus, we know that we can withstand all temptations and that the enemy is already defeated. Teach us, Father, to apply Scripture and Biblical principles in our lives to withstand temptation and to know the truth of Your Word. Amen. ©
