Day 20 – Wise

“When she speaks, her words are wise,” Proverbs 31:26a

Every woman wants to be wise, whether as a mother (to make wise decisions regarding the health and well-being of her children), a wife (how to best support her husband), a servant (in her occupation), or in the church or community she forms part of.

In Proverbs 31:26 we learn that a virtuous woman (or wife) opens her mouth skillfully with Godly wisdom. Proverbs 14:1 declares that a wise woman builds her house but the foolish pulls it down with her own hands. I believe a foolish woman pulls it down with her own hands just as Eve pulled the fruit from the forbidden tree with her own hands.

Eve thought she could gain Godly wisdom when she saw that the tree was good for food and delightful to look at. She desired to become wise and insightful. Eve took some of its fruit and ate it and also gave some to her husband to eat (Genesis 3:6). We all know what happened after she took it upon herself to become wise and also after encouraging her husband to eat it as well. They became separated from God. Worldly self-seeking wisdom leads to worldly sorrow and spiritual death.

On the other hand, Godly wisdom inspired by the Holy Spirit leads to life and joy. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding” according to Proverbs 9:10. When a woman seeks God’s will first and is led by the divine instructions of the Holy Spirit before taking any action, she will reap the fruit of wisdom, joy, and life. She will carry it to all those around her like a sweet aroma for all to breathe in.

Prayer: Abba Father, thank You for allowing wisdom to be within our reach. Guide us in our lives to be able to choose life over death and to be fruitful with Your wisdom and love to those around us. In Jesus’s Name. Amen.
