Day 5 – You bless me
“You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head.” Psalm 139:5 NLT
We are surrounded by God just like the first sentence in today’s verse assures us. God is in our distant and immediate future because He promises to go before us. We can have faith that He is already there no matter what lies ahead. He is also in our past because He follows us, indicating that no matter what happened, our Father was there. This revelation made me realize that forgiving what happened to you and asking forgiveness for what you have done is so much easier because God was there too. He already knows.
Then David tells us that God places His hand of blessing on our heads. “Why the head?” I wondered. Our heads relate to our thoughts and keep the knowledge we gain throughout our lives. This is a constant reminder that we should keep the statutes of God’s Word (His laws) and constantly meditate on His Word. Remember His promises and know that we are blessed when we obey Him in our thoughts and actions. I immediately thought about the helmet of salvation protecting our thoughts from the onslaught of the enemy. God’s hand is like our helmet of salvation blessing us with His goodness and mercy when we align our minds with Kingdom thinking.
Let’s pray: Father, I never realized the importance of Your hand resting on my head and my thoughts being blessed by You. I ask today that You please place Your hand of blessing on us and not remove it. Guide our thoughts to be focused on You, Your Word and Your will. Thank You for always being before us and following our days. I love being surrounded by You. Amen.
