Day 4 – You listen to me

“For there is not a word on my tongue, But behold, O Lord, You know it altogether.” Psalm 139:4 NKJV

Have you ever heard the saying, “Talk is cheap”? Actually, it is not. Every word we speak carries value towards our eternity and should be weighed against the Word of God. The book of Proverbs is filled with wisdom-filled advice about what we allow to come out of our mouths. We are accountable for every word we speak.

God knows altogether the words formed and ready to jump from our tongues. We should not see this as a negative aspect like a referee waiting to blow the whistle when we say something wrong. This counts for the worship and prayers we offer to our Creator too. He cannot wait for those words to be uttered into the universe to glorify His Holy Name. He cannot wait for you to pray and pour out your soul to Him. He hears every prayer from our lips even when we are duped by the enemy to think otherwise.

From today’s verse and prayer experience, I know that He listens to me. And, beloved, He listens to you too. I understand that situations can be so overwhelming that you do not know how to form what you feel into words, but today’s verse reassures us that He knows exactly what you want to say. Open your mouth and allow your heart to form the words. God listens, it is promised.

Let’s pray: Father, how assuring it is to know that even our words are known to You and that You listen. Thank You for listening to me, Lord. For always listening to me even if I think my prayers, are disorganized rumblings. Amen.
