Day 3 – You are comprehensive and acquainted

“You comprehend my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways.” Psalm 139:3 NKJV
Let’s break this verse apart to understand it for its full meaning. To comprehend is to mentally grasp something’s complete nature or meaning. It carries a stronger implication than just understanding something. For example, you may understand a verse but do not comprehend the full message and you need comprehension to grasp the context.
Being acquainted with something means to know or be familiar with something because you have studied it or experienced it before.
When looking at these meanings, the whole verse sounds like a paradox, doesn’t it? The beauty of this lies in the knowledge of God’s indescribable love for us and His yearning for us to walk in His will. He comprehends our path – the path He set out for us to eternity with Him – and even the times we are at rest. And He is acquainted with our ways, meaning the ways we choose not covered in His will and perfect plan for us. So even if we wander off a little doing our own thing, God knows this too because of His great love for us and guides us back to a path paved with His will.
Let’s pray: Father, it is difficult for us to comprehend Your fullness and glory, but we are assured that You comprehend our paths. Even when we wander off out of the protection of Your will, you still know these paths and lead us back to full comprehension. Thank You for our free will and constant confirmation that choosing You every second of every day is part of our path to Your heart. Amen.
