Day 2 – You understand me

“You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off.” Psalm 139:2 NKJV

There are days I do not even understand myself. And it is those days I am so grateful to know that my Father understands the cacophony of thoughts running through my mind. Have you ever thought of something completely different (and quite sudden) and wondered where it comes from? Why are you thinking this? And you don’t understand it at all. Beloved, you are in good company.

Our thoughts are under constant attack by the enemy of our soul. This is why Paul’s advice in Philippians 4:8 is vital to our mental well-being, “And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” This is not the easiest thing to do because our thoughts default to the negative and nasty. But as he mentions, this is something to keep putting into practice. Yes, our thought patterns can be exercised with Biblical practice.

Just as God knows you physically because of His creative genius in you, He knows your thoughts too. He knows the thoughts you are waging an internal war with, and He understands them. But we are not alone, we have the Holy Spirit ready to guide us and help us to turn our thoughts from negative to positive. From anxiety to praise. From addictive patterns to Biblical disciplines.

Let’s pray: Father, thank You that we are so precious to You that even our thoughts are of importance and that we have the assurance that You understand them. Teach me to practice healthy thought processing by filtering my thoughts through Philippians 4:8 and capturing the negative thoughts in Jesus’s Name. Amen.
