Day 7 – Bible Study Journals

“it seemed fitting for me as well, having investigated everything carefully from the beginning, to write it out for you in consecutive order, most excellent Theophilus;” Luke 1:3

Studying is the devotion of time and attention to gaining knowledge of an academic subject, especially using books. It is a detailed investigation and analysis of a subject or situation, kinda like the Gospel of Luke which is a factual study of the birth, life, ministry, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ. Bible study is the study of the Bible by people as a personal religious or spiritual practice for the enlightenment of revelation and Truth. No one has ever studied something and taken nothing away from it.

Your journal does not need to be a reflection of your life, but you can use it as a study aid to note what you’ve studied and how you can apply it practically to your daily life. Do not be skeptical as to use Bible dictionaries, concordances, or commentaries to delve deeper into the Word and study the context of scripture and the meaning of Hebrew or Greek words. Always pray and ask God to open your mind to the truth of His word and to give you a deeper understanding of what you are studying.

Interesting topics to include in your studies:

• Name meanings

• Geographical places and meanings (print maps to include in your journal)

• Phrase meanings in Biblical times

• Translation comparison and cross-references

• Text commentaries and dictionaries

There is no “wrong” way to study the Bible. Follow what interest you and allow the Word to open itself to your curiosity as you search for meaning and facts.

Prayer: Father, thank You for giving us the brainpower and curiosity to study Your Word in-depth. May what I learn and journal down enrich my life and help me to teach others what I’ve learned through studying Your Word. Amen.

Tip: Today in the freebie section you can download a Character study page to help you get started by using different aids to study a Biblical character of your choice.
