Day 82 – 1 Kings: Wicked Reigns

“When Ahab got home, he told Jezebel everything Elijah had done, including the way he had killed all the prophets of Baal. So Jezebel sent this message to Elijah: “May the gods strike me and even kill me if by this time tomorrow, I have not killed you just as you killed them.” 1 Kings 19:1-2 NLT

Just as we read about all the heroes and people God empowered with His Spirit to lead His nation thus far, we also read about the villains – the enemies of Israel and God. Two notorious individuals are mentioned in scripture in 1 Kings: King Ahab and Queen Jezebel. Their wickedness spiralled the nation of Israel into a darkness of idolatry and evil.

After Eliah proved the existence of the True Living God and killed the prophets of Baal, Jezebel threatened his life, and he fled. God dealt with them individually, and their story remains for us to learn from, always seeking God first and not following the world into the dark wickedness of false doctrine and idolatry.

Prayer: Father, thank You for sketching in Your Word the history of our enemies too so we can learn how the enemy strategies to lead us away from You. May Your Spirit lead us in worship and prayer to glorify You and You alone. Amen.
