Day 103 – The unusual character of the Kingdom

Study Luke 9:46-48

“Then a dispute arose among them as to which of them would be greatest.” Luke 9:46

Even as Jesus explicitly foretold His coming suffering and death, the disciples fell into petty human rivalry, arguing among themselves over who was the greatest. Knowing their thoughts, Jesus took a little child, set him by His side, and gave them a radical definition of kingdom greatness: whoever welcomes the lowly and least in His name welcomes Christ Himself.

In the kingdom of God, status and ambition are completely inverted. True greatness is not found in climbing a ladder of self-importance or lording power over others, but in embracing humility and serving the vulnerable with a childlike heart.

Pray with me: Lord Jesus, deliver me from the trap of pride and selfish ambition. Give me a humble heart that delights in serving the lowly rather than seeking personal status. Amen. ©

Love, Iriza
