Day 31 – Being led

Study Luke 4:1-13

“Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,” Luke 4:1

Luke 4 is a pivotal point in the Gospel where Jesus, immediately following His empowering baptism at the Jordan, is led into the wilderness by the Holy Spirit. His period of fasting and intense spiritual conflict with Satan prepares Him for His earthly public ministry.

After identifying with sinners in baptism, Jesus immediately identifies with us in temptation. It is crucial to note that He did not wander into the wilderness on His own; rather, the Holy Spirit intentionally led Him into that arena. This reminds us that facing trials is not necessarily a sign of being outside of God’s will but can instead be a deliberate part of His preparation, designed to refine us and prove our obedience.

Throughout His life and ministry, Jesus lived fully as a Spirit-led man. Rather than relying on the infinite resources of His own divine nature, He willingly limited Himself to what could be accomplished through the intimate guidance of God the Father and the empowering presence of God the Holy Spirit.

Pray with me: Lord, so many times we complain or think we are outside Your will when we find ourselves in a wilderness season. Teach us, Father, that the Holy Spirit leads even in these seasons. I know, Lord, that Your Word says that You will never leave us nor forsake us – and this includes wilderness seasons.
