Day 104 – True greatness isn’t cliquish
Study Luke 9:49-50
“But Jesus said to him, ‘Do not forbid him, for he who is not against us is on our side.’” Luke 9:50
John piped up with a report: they had seen someone casting out demons in Jesus’ name and tried to stop him because he wasn’t part of their immediate apostolic circle. But Jesus immediately corrected their narrow, tribal mindset, saying, “Do not forbid him, for he who is not against us is on our side.”
It is easy for God’s people to fall into an exclusive, cliquish spirit – believing that genuine work for the kingdom only happens within our preferred group or denomination. Jesus rebukes our spiritual turf wars, reminding us that His kingdom is far larger, broader, and more diverse than our narrow human boundaries often allow.
Pray with me: Lord Jesus, forgive me for my narrow, cliquish spirit. Give me a generous heart that rejoices wherever Your name is truly preached, and Your power is at work. Amen. ©
