Day 287 – 2 Thessalonians: The bright hope of Christ’s return

“When he comes on that day, he will receive glory from his holy people—praise from all who believe. And this includes you, for you believed what we told you about him.” 2 Thessalonians 1:10 NLT

Read 2 Thessalonians 1:1 to 2 Thessalonians 2:17

Because Paul said that the Lord could come at any moment, some of the Thessalonian believers had stopped working and were simply waiting for Christ, but this was based on a misunderstanding of the previous letter and due to their new faith. I can imagine, with the continuation of the persecutions, that they were eager to see Jesus’ return. The promise is not when He returns, but that He will return and bring total victory to all who trust in Him.

Paul encouraged the church to persevere despite their troubles, trials, and persecutions. God will bring victory to His faithful followers and judgment on the persecutors. Enduring suffering for your faith will strengthen you to serve with a humble heart.

Prayer: Father, thank You for the bright hope of Jesus’ return and being united with Him as His bride. Since the first church, persecutions have not stopped and are continuing today. I pray for those who are martyred for their faith and thank You that we can pray for them for strength, perseverance, and endurance as a Body of Christ. Amen.
