Day 288 – 2 Thessalonians: Living in the light of Christ’s return

“As for the rest of you, dear brothers and sisters, never get tired of doing good.” 2 Thessalonians 3:13 NLT

Read 2 Thessalonians 3:1-18

Paul reminds the Thessalonian church that not everyone is a believer and that evil does exist. But he says, “…the Lord is faithful, He will strengthen you and guard you from the evil one.” Enveloped in this promise is the knowledge that God will never leave us nor forsake us and that our strength is in Him.

In the last chapter, Paul urges believers not to be idle but to work, as he and his companions did. They worked for their keep and food and never expected it from the church. God commanded man to work the earth in Genesis, and this never changed. We still have a responsibility to work and to do good, even though Jesus will return at any moment.

Prayer: Father, thank You for the encouragement to work and knowing that our work is also to glorify You. Thank You for guarding us and for giving us strength in times of peril when we are under attack by the evil one. Amen.
