Day 9 – Long-term Biblical mentorship
Proverbs 3:3-4 “Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man.”
There are different types of mentoring methods discussed in the book, with biblical examples. Long-term mentoring is an ongoing, almost lifelong, like-minded journey with someone who will continue on the path set by God.
Many struggle to maintain healthy relationships, and technology has only made it more challenging. Lack of proper guidance on building healthy relationships has contributed to the rising divorce rates. Our behavior towards our partners and others often reflects our lack of understanding about fostering healthy, long-term relationships. But we, as Christians are fortunate to have the guidance of God’s Word to understand the importance of healthy relationships.
Numerous values are essential to every Christian in relationships, here are only a few:
• Love is written in the 10 Commandments and covers all the other commandments Mark 12:31 “Love one another as I have loved you”
• 1 Peter 5:5 says we must be submissive to one another and clothed with humility. When we are humble, we’re willing to listen
• Jesus Himself modelled to be a servant. In Mark 10:45 we read that even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve.
• Psalms 103:8 tells us that God has patience with us, and He is slow to anger. We should not have the “my way or the highway” mentality but rather patience with others.
Prayer: Lord, please grant us the love for people so we may minister to them with humble hearts, willing and serving hands, and compassionate hearts. Give us the patience to lead every person we encounter to Your embrace and help us to accept that we all have a sinful past and to show them affection. Thank you, Jesus, for the example You set. Amen.
