Day 10 – Tree

“And to the man, He said, “Since you listened to your wife and ate from the tree whose fruit I commanded you not to eat, the ground is cursed because of you.” Genesis 3:17a (NLT)

Often I found myself wondering what it would have been like to live in Eden. If God never exiled Adam and we can walk in His presence like sin never entered the world. But it did. They ate from the tree God commanded them not to and banished them so they could not be tempted again and eat from the Tree of Life and live eternally. Too easily Adam yielded to temptation and he would have again if they stayed. The big trifactor shattering the story is sin.

“The God of our fathers raised up Jesus whom you murdered by hanging him on a tree.” Acts 5:30 (NKJV)

Adam only ate from the tree to cause all of humanity to fall into sin, while Jesus hung from a tree to be the atonement of sin for all humanity. Where the first Adam lacked, Jesus brought it to completion. That which was broken is healed through the sacrifice of Jesus making us whole with God, our loving Father. Where the world cries “victim”, Jesus is Victor. Let us model our lives to follow the footsteps of the second Adam.

Prayer: Father, I thank You for teaching us so much about the first Adam and the second Adam, who is Jesus Christ as Paul described. For each broken thing in this world, Jesus is the answer to forgiveness, healing, and restoration. I pray that all who read this sincerely seek to follow Jesus as their Lord and Saviour. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.
