Day 13 – Curses from man: Self-imposed curses

“My father peradventure will feel me, and I shall seem to him as a deceiver; and I shall bring a curse upon me, and not a blessing. And his mother said unto him, Upon me be thy curse, my son: only obey my voice, and go fetch me them.” Genesis 27:12-13 (KJV)

Just like Rebekah was speaking a curse here over herself, we so often speak curses over ourselves. When we say things like “Why am I alive” or “I want to die” or “I am not going to make it” we are actually speaking a curse over ourselves. Sometimes when we are young, we also speak curses over ourselves by saying things like “I never want to get married” or “I never want to have children” or whatever the case may be.

The devil takes these inner vows you make (again, sometimes unknowingly of the consequences) and he uses it against you as a curse. Be careful how you speak to yourself. The spirit of death does not need any invitation to come into your life. If you invite him, even when it is unknowing or unintentional, he will come in. The devil is the one tricking you into saying these things so that he can eventually use them against you. Remember, his mission is to kill, steal, and destroy.

When you feel this hopelessness coming over you and you think of saying these bad things about yourself, remember that Jesus saw you as important enough to die for. You are not a waste of His time and you are definitely here for a reason. He has plans for you and had a  specific destiny planned when He created you. Hold on to that when you feel defeated and discouraged.

Prayer: Father God, thank you for having a plan for me and my life. Thank you for showing me that I sometimes impose curses on myself when I feel defeated. Please show me where these curses are at play in my life so that we can fight them together. Thank you Jesus for seeing me as valuable enough to die for.Amen
