Day 114 – Looking forward without regret

Study Luke 9:46-48, 61-62

“No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.” Luke 9:62

As Jesus walked the path toward His ultimate sacrifice, the disciples struggled to grasp the true nature of His kingdom, even falling into petty arguments over position and status. Knowing the secret ambitions of their hearts, Jesus pulled a little child close to His side, introducing a radical reversal of human values: true kingdom greatness is found in embracing the lowest place, welcoming the vulnerable, and serving without seeking applause. In God’s kingdom, the ladder of success points down, not up, reflecting the humble character of Christ.

This wholehearted surrender requires absolute focus. When another would-be follower asked to first say goodbye to his family, Jesus used the vivid imagery of a farmer plowing a field: a man who keeps looking over his shoulder while holding the plow cannot plow a straight furrow. Looking back ruins the harvest. Following Jesus requires undivided commitment without hesitation or glancing backward at the comforts we left behind. True greatness belongs to those who keep their eyes fixed firmly ahead on Christ.

Pray with me: Lord Jesus, search my heart, root out selfish ambition, and keep my eyes fixed firmly on You. Deliver me from looking back with regret or hesitation, and help me to follow You wholeheartedly today. Amen. ©

Love, Iriza
