Day 7 – A new dwelling place for the Lord

1 Kings 8:57 “May the Lord our God be with us, as He was with our fathers; may He not leave us nor forsake us.”

These words were prayed as the whole of Israel gathered before the splendid new temple while King Solomon welcomed the King of kings into His temple. Everyone experienced the glory of God’s presence, and they desired for it to remain with them forever.

When Solomon prayed these words, he didn’t realise how they would come into fulfilment for all believers through the ages. Out of his bloodline the promised Messiah would come. Mankind would have a chance to find redemption. When Jesus returned to His heavenly throne, His Holy Spirit came to dwell in the hearts of believers.

“I will never [under any circumstances] desert you [nor give you up nor leave you without support, nor will I in any degree leave you helpless], nor will I forsake or let you down or relax My hold on you [assuredly not]!”

What better assurance can we ask for in this broken, upside-down world, than to know that we will never be without God’s presence because we are now the temple of the Holy Spirit.

Prayer: Spirit of the living God, You are my Helper, an ever-present Help in trouble. Thank you for this comforting truth that You will never leave me, nor forsake me. I can face my future with confidence knowing that I won’t face it alone. Amen.
