Fast like Daniel – Why fast?

Why fast?
“So we fasted and entreated our God about this, and He answered our prayer.” Ezra 8:23 (NKJV)
If you are a seasoned fast veteran or someone that does not know where to start when it comes to fasting, we hope this devotional will help you create a foundation for a healthy fast and prayer lifestyle. Setting aside dedicated time for Bible study, prayer and fasting is a disciplined undertaking and one to be taken seriously. Though fasting is a very personal principle for me, I understand that most Christians struggle with this.
If could point a neon flashing sign on the following – I would do it in bright pink! Fasting is not a diet or weight loss solution! In the Bible, fasting is always coupled with prayer as an act of worship or sacrifice to God. It is not for us to get answers from God, but for us to draw closer to Him to hear His heart. It is the act of denying one’s flesh and devoting time to God.
Spiritual Benefits

Prayer: Father, we humbly come before you to seek your heart as we prepare for fasting. Create in us a hunger to spend time in Your Word and precious time with You. Amen.
