Day 13 – Zacharias’ Prophecy
Study Luke 1:67-80
“And all those who heard them kept them in their hearts, saying, “What kind of child will this be?” And the hand of the Lord was with him.” Luke 1:66
Though Zacheriah showed doubt, which caused his muteness, his faith in the fulfilment of Gabriel’s prophecy and what was spoken over his son’s life opened his mouth. And the first thing he did was to praise God with words, I am sure, that were stuck in the silence of his heart.
After the Intertestamental period of Heaven’s silence, Elizabeth, Mary, and now Zachariah prophesied, and all of these were connected to the theme of Jesus and His ministry. Zachariah’s song, also called the Benedictus (from its first words in the Latin translation “Benedictus dominus deus Israel”, meaning Blessed be the Lord of Israel), showed that God was present with Israel in a way they had not experienced in a long time. It was a song of salvation, and within it a truth deeper than Zachariah realised. He did not know Jesus, yet praised Him, loved Him, and was passionate about Him and what He was going to do.
Elizabeth, Mary, and Zachariah harmonised one eternal voice about the Saviour. The promise of God came to fruition in John’s life, who was living his adult life in the desert till the day of his manifestation, because that is where God trains many of His prophets.
Pray with me: Thank You for showing us, O Lord, that prophecy was not only an Old Testament occurrence, but was uttered by two women and a priest before the birth of our Saviour. May we train our tongue to speak the language of Heaven and proclaim the goodness of Jesus Christ. Amen. ©
