A Ruth Relationship – Day 4
Goel
“And Naomi had a kinsman of her husband’s, a mighty man of wealth, of the family of Elimelech; and his name was Boaz” Ruth 2:1 KJV
“Goel” (Go el) is Hebrew for the kinsman (or kinsman-redeemer as some dictionaries refer too). The strong use of the kinsman in the book of Ruth expresses the importance of redemption and Boaz is immediately connected with this word. A kinsman is a male relative who had the privilege or responsibility to act on behalf of a relative who was in trouble, danger or in need. It designates to one who delivers or rescues, redeems property or a person or someone who vindicates a relative as illustrated in the book of Ruth.
“How does this relate to your relationship with God?” – you might wonder….
The Old Testament shadow of the Goel is perfectly fulfilled in the substance of Christ and summarize the results of His redemption which was wrought for us. Of God’s truth which should motivate us to walk worthily in the calling to which we have been called in Christ Jesus – our Goel.
Because of God’s unfailing and unrelentless love for you, Jesus was already chosen to be the Goel for His children – even before you took your first breath. To strengthen our walk in our relationship with God, we need to accept our redemption through Christ without a shadow of a doubt.
Ruth Relationship Advice: Trust Jesus, your Goel, who already redeemed you and who is standing at the City gates looking, after ALL, your affairs.
Prayer: Our Father, thank You for Jesus our Redeemer, our Goel. Thank you for teaching us the importance of redemption in our relationship with You and that You have already used people from the Old Testament to beautifully illustrate the character of a Goel. Thank You, Jesus, that I can call myself Redeemed. Amen.
