Day 1 – Peace gives a Godly foundation

“When the storms of life come, the wicked are whirled away, but the godly have a lasting foundation.” Proverbs 10:25 NLT

With eloquent words, I can sketch the perfect idea of what peace is (or should be) using theology and terminology. Understanding what it is on paper and experiencing it is completely opposite. But, as I have grown in my relationship with God, I came to know Him as faithful to His Word and what I learn from scripture, He brings to life in my situations. How I came to KNOW peace – His peace – is one of those moments I would like to share with you, my friend. It is still a raw and emotional story, but I share it gladly with the strength, love, and peace He gives me.

It was late on a still warm April Thursday when I received a call that we had to come and say goodbye to my mother in the hospital.  With shaky hands and little words, I packed my desk and phoned my girls from the car informing them I was coming to pick them up and why. Bystanders might tell you that I was cool, calm, and collected whilst my mind was a whirlwind of emotions, thoughts, and silent prayers. I did not pray for God to spare my mother or go into bargaining with Him. (You know those “God if you do this then I will do ABC…”) I prayed repeatedly: “Let Your will be done, Lord. Let Your will be done.”

After picking up the girls, we headed to the hospital and… got stuck in peak-hour traffic through the city. If I tell you that I am a very patient driver, I will be lying. (Though I try!). But sitting in that traffic, moving a few paces at a time did not frustrate or irritate me. In the traffic chaos, my emotions and thoughts found footing on a foundation I immediately understood as only my Rock. Because only God can be the order in chaos, the foundation in storms. That was the first time I prayed, “Thank You God for Your peace…”

Prayer: Father, thank You for giving me the courage to share this intimate story of Your amazing peace and grace. I pray Lord, that every person reading this will have the opportunity to experience Your peace in a tangible way understanding that Your peace is not of this world but directly from Your heart. Amen.
