Day 12 – Death of the firstborn

God vs Pharaoh

The first-born child is like a special blessing and that moment you hold you’re first born in your hand feels like a miracle.

Exodus 11:4-5 “Thus says the Lord: About midnight I will go out in the midst of Egypt, and every firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sits on his throne”.

Pharaoh known as the king of Egypt the greatest Egyptian god, ruler of all the gods and worshipped by the Egyptians. It was believed that he was the son of Ra himself, manifest in the flesh. The first-born son of Pharaoh was conditioned and educated to take over from his father and receive the special honour of being seen as a god himself.

God’s people stayed in Egypt for more than 400 years and by now they were set in the religious way of Egypt. God changed His strategy once again and the Israelites were included in the last plague. God’s mission was to determine the level of faith and obeisance the Israelites had towards God. Exodus 12:7 “Then they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and the lintel of the house in which they eat it” Just as we have a choice to reject or trust God, he first gave the Israelites.

God gave specific instructions to the Israelites to protect themselves against this plague. Failing to obey the word of the Lord will have a deadly consequence. Today these instructions are known as “The Feast of Passover”.

Prayer: Thank you Lord that I can say that I have overcome the enemy by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony. Revelation 12:11 “And they have overcome him by means of the blood of the Lam and but the utterance of their testimony, for they did not love and cling to life even when forced with death”. Amen.
