Day 7 – Lord, teach us how to pray – Step 2

Matthew 6:10 “Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”

How is it possible to pray for God’s kingdom to come, for God’s will to be done on earth as it is done in heaven? Simple. We speak the words of God because they are His will – His Word is His will. How do we do this?

In Romans, Paul speaks about God calling those things that do not exist as though they do exist – He created the world by speaking it into existence after all! And He expects us to speak words of truth and life that will bring transformation to our lives, too. In Ephesians 6 he refers to the Word of God as the sword of the Spirit. In Revelation, John tells of a sword that goes out from the mouth of the Lord.

Life and death are in the power of the tongue. When we pray, we should pray the very words that God spoke, for example: “Thank you, Lord, that You are a shield about me.” “Lord, I can handle the challenges of today, because You said that I can do all things through Christ.” “I will not fear, because You are with me.”

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, what a wonderful tool You have given me! Prayer is such a powerful privilege. It excites me, Lord, to understand that I have the ability and the responsibility to pray Your kingdom into being here on earth, to pray for Your will to be done in my life, the lives of my loved ones, and even my enemies. Thank You, Jesus, for teaching me how to pray! Amen.
