Day 8 – Lord, teach us how to pray – Step 3
Matthew 6:11 “Give us this day our daily bread.”
This seems simple enough. But do we remember to pray about our needs? Isn’t it sometimes easier and more natural to try to make our own plan? In my life, I learned the hard way that my own plans didn’t work. Once I learned to surrender my will and my ideas to God, He made it all work out for the best.
Jesus said that we shouldn’t worry about what we will eat or drink or wear, knowing that our Heavenly Father knows that we need these things. Yet, in this model prayer, He teaches us to ask for our daily bread. Why ask, if our Father knows what we need? It comes down to relationship. The Father yearns that His children would have the freedom to talk to Him about every detail of our lives – not from a position of worry, but the position of faith.
He is our Father, He will provide because He is true to His Word. Remember this verse? “Do not fret about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition (definite requests), with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God …” Lord, give us this day our daily bread.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, You are faithful to Your Word, Your promises are true. Thank you that You do not change, so everything You say remains eternally so. Today I ask and thank you for providing my every need. I choose not to give in to anxiety, Lord. I trust You that today my needs are met. Amen.
