A Ruth Relationship – Day 15
Acts of Service
“So Ruth worked alongside the women in Boaz’s fields and gathered grain with them until the end of the barley harvest. Then she continued working with them through the wheat harvest in early summer. And all the while she lived with her mother-in-law.” Ruth 2:23
Ruth continued wholeheartedly with her gleaning through different seasons. Not straying from her duties or expected anything more from Boaz. She served in his field as a gleaner and the core of her character remained intact. Ruth was, by heart, a servant – towards the Lord (for choosing Him), Naomi (for not leaving her side) and towards Boaz (for accepting his kindness and staying in his field).
- Active – The Proverbs 31-woman springs to mind when I think of Ruth. Despite the fact that she was in peril, she did not sit around waiting for charity to come her way. She took action and actively looked for a solution for her and Naomi.
- Obedient – Ruth was obedient to the law of the Israelites and took care of Naomi, a widow. She also showed obedience towards Boaz when he told her to stay in his field and close to the women.
- Loyal – Not once did Ruth leave Naomi, nor her duties as a gleaner and committed to them wholeheartedly
- Determined – She was adamant to find something to do and not have idle hands. Her determination not to quit resulted in countenance.
- Trusted – Through her character and strangers account, Boaz trusted her to be in his field and amongst his workers.
- Generous – She did not keep the favour and blessings for herself. She shared with Naomi everything she received.
Ruth Relationship Advice: Acts of service is pivotal to any relationship to grow in health and strength.
Prayer: Father, please help me to be known as a person with acts of service towards You and people. Thank You for the opportunities where I can serve and be a humble servant for Your Kingdom. Amen.
