Day 6 – Blame

“The man replied, “it was the woman you gave me who gave me the fruit, and I ate it.” Genesis 3:12 NLT

Responsibility is not something we like to own up to, especially when there are dire consequences to our actions. Adam is the first example of blame-shifting, pointing a finger at his wife and then at his Creator. Nothing changed much since then… We still like to blame others for our sins and we still blame God when things aren’t going the way we expect them to. It is a dangerous cycle humanity fell into sin, blame shift, sin, blame shift… Not accepting responsibility for our sins and repenting from them.

“For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.” 2 Corinthians 5:21

Then Jesus stepped into our world. He who never sinned took the consequences of our sinful actions on Him when He willingly died for them on the cross so that we can be in right standing with our Creator once more. This does not take away your responsibility not to own up to your sin. When you repent through Jesus, God forgives your sin because the consequence (which is death) was already taken by Jesus our Lord and Saviour.

When you want to blame, look at yourself first and what your responsibility in the whole situation is and bring it to God with a humble and sincere heart of forgiveness.

Prayer: Father, so often I blame others for my situation or my part in an argument without evaluating what my responsibility in it was. And at times I have pointed a finger at You. Please forgive me for this and guide me to accept responsibility for my wrongful actions and sins and to bring them to Jesus. Thank You, Jesus, for what You did for me and for taking my judgment upon You. Amen.
