Day 2 – Blessed creation

“Then God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply. Let the fish fill the seas, and let the birds multiply on the earth.” Genesis 1:22 NLT

When God breathed creation into existence, He already had a blessed plan of love for His creation. The first blessing spoken in the Bible is from God’s mouth where He blesses the fish and all in the ocean and the birds and all in the sky to be fruitful and multiply. With this blessing, multiplication and fruitfulness burst forth and have not stopped. The intention of this first blessing lays the foundation for continuous growth.

Then humans were created in the likeness of His image and verse 28 says, “Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it. Reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground.” You and I received the same blessing of multiplication and fruitfulness, but with an added extra: we are blessed to govern and reign over God’s creation with the same love He created it. Don’t we take this for granted? Instead of living with creation, we think we are better than what we were given to govern.

And then, on the seventh day, God created a day of rest and blessed it, Genesis 2:3 “And God blessed the seventh and declared it holy, because it was the day He rested from all His work of creation.” The creation blessings include everything consisting of fruitfulness, governing, and rest. Accepting and living in these blessings cements our spiritual growth disciplines to bear the fruit of the Spirit, govern responsibly over that which God gave us, and rest within Him to marvel and celebrate Who He is.

Prayer: Father, so often we beg blessings from You whilst forgetting the blessing You spoke over all of creation giving us the means to live a blessed life from those words alone. Thank You, loving Father, for giving us the ability to be fruitful, responsible, and able to rest with You. In Jesus’s Name, amen.
