Day 5 – The Bride
“So the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep. While the man slept, the Lord God took out one of the man’s ribs and closed up the opening. Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib, and he brought her to the man.” Genesis 2:21-22 NLT
God said it’s not good for man to be alone, so He created a bride for Adam from his rib. Since that day, the institute of marriage was woven into humanity and a holy covenant was made between God, Adam, and his bride. Because of sin, this too was tarnished by sin and the holiness of a once-perfect covenant was lost.
“Then one of the seven angels who held the seven bowls containing the seven last plagues came and said to me, “Come with me! I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.” So he took me in the Spirit to a great, high mountain, and he showed me the holy city, Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God.” Revelation 21:9-10
When we come to Revelation we see God’s perfect plan to restore this holy covenant between Himself, His Son (the new Adam), and His bride, the holy city Jerusalem – bringing what was broken within the worldly Adam regime to a wholeness under the reign of our Lord Jesus Christ. Me and you, my dear friend, are called to live our lives like a bride preparing to meet the Bridegroom. Seeking what is pure, holy, and beautiful in the eyes of our Father.
Prayer: Father, there are so many references in Your Word about a bride. My prayer is that You will guide us to come into a place of preparation where we seek a relationship with Jesus, the Bridegroom. Thank You that we can learn that even when something was broken right at the beginning of creation, You had a perfect plan to restore us to You with a love so deep we could never comprehend it. Amen.
