Day 4 – Temptation

“The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate too.” Genesis 3:6 NLT
Embedded within our humanity is free will – our ability to make choices. Exploiting this free will is the enemy of God and all humanity. Luring us with the temptation to sin against our creator. In the garden of Eden, he knew all he needed to do is tempt. Unfortunately, Adam and Eve failed to withstand the temptation resulting in the fall of all humanity.
“Get out of here Satan,” Jesus told him. “For Scripture say, ‘You must worship the Lord your God and serve only him.’ Then the devil went away, and angels came and took care of Jesus.” Matthew 4:10-11 NLT
Luckily for you and me, we have the greatest example to mimic when facing temptation. Where Adam failed to say no to temptation, Jesus gives us an example to overcome temptation. So, when the enemy comes knocking with temptation, you can answer in the same words Jesus did, “Get out of here Satan.” Jesus gave us every weapon to withstand temptation and choosing to say no becomes easier when we are willing to choose Jesus above all.
Prayer: Father, thank You for showing us how to stand against any temptation the enemy might throw our way by following the example Jesus gives us. Thank you Jesus for being the exemplar of how to do this. Thank you for showing us that even when we fall, you are always there showing us the right way. Amen.
