Day 26 – I am HEAVEN’S CITIZEN

But [we are different, because] our citizenship is in heaven. And from there we eagerly await [the coming of] the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ” Philippians 3:20

The definition of citizenship is a legal status and relation between an individual and a state that entails specific legal rights and duties. To start with the less fun part of it – our foremost duty entails being Jesus’ disciples, disciplined followers of Christ, diligent in our work as spreaders of the truth, peacemakers and ambassadors of the Kingdom. Then the fun part – we have rights and legal standing in the Kingdom. The first favour we enjoy, is that we have opened for us the door of the throne room, being sure that the sceptre of the King will always be extended to us to draw near to Him and that He listens when we speak. We have the gloriousness of freedom to be who we are with Him, knowing that there is no condemnation for us who are in Christ Jesus. We are protected and our souls will remain in peace as long as we are focused on Him. Above all else, we are loved with a love that is patient and serene, kind and thoughtful, not jealous; not proud or arrogant, not rude; not self-seeking, not provoked nor overly sensitive and easily angered and does not take into account a wrong endured. This is the new dispensation we are under, even to the level of provision, our dependence is not on the world anymore.

Prayer: Lord, we had difficulty understanding the working between our world and Your Kingdom, but now we begin to see that our world is subject to You and that we, as Your citizens, have been granted access to all that You have for us. We come to learn from You, Lord, how to act and be partakers in all this wonder, so that You may be seen and be glorified in it all! In Jesus’s name. Amen.

Love, Anna-Mart Nel
